寻陆鸿渐不遇

                           僧皎然

移家虽带郭，

野径入桑麻。

近种篱边菊，

秋来未著花。

扣门无犬吠，

欲去问西家。

报到山中去，

归来每日斜。

Visiting Mr. Lu Hongjian in Vain

                                                           Seng Jiaoran

Although you had moved near the outer city wall,

Your path led me to a farm of mulberry and hemp.

Chrysanthemums were recently planted by the fence.

And no flowers had yet been blooming in the fall.

No dogs barked when I knocked at the door,

Before I left, I asked your neighbor about you.

He said you were in the mountain during the day,

And wouldn’t be home untile the sun set.
