人恒过，然后能改

人恒过，然后能改；困于心，衡于虑，而后作；征于色，发于声，而后喻，入则无法家拂士，出则无敌国外患者，国恒亡，然后知生于忧患而死于安乐也。——孟子

一个人常犯过失，才能改正；心意困苦，思虑阻塞，才能振作起来。表现在面色上，吐露在言语中，才能被人了解。一个国家内部没有讲法度的人相辅佐，外面没有敌国外患的忧虑，就要灭亡。这样就可以知道忧愁患害能使人生存，安逸快乐能使人死亡的道理啊。——孟子

A person can corret himself after making faults; he can only bestir himself after deep distress and the clogging of pondering; he can only be understood by expressing himself in facial expressions or in words.  A state will die out if it has neither men knowing laws to assist at home, nor worries of aggression from abroad.   Thus we may understand the truth that worry and disaster can make people survive while comfort and happiness can make people die. ——Mencius
